Bank sync eliminates manual data entry by pulling every transaction from your connected bank account directly into Dongip. Once connected, new charges appear automatically, get assigned to a category, and grow more accurate the longer you use the app—no ongoing effort required on your part.

How bank sync works

Dongip connects to your bank through a secure, read-only link. This means Dongip can see your transactions but cannot move money, modify anything, or access your login credentials. Your bank username and password are never stored by Dongip.
Bank sync is powered by Plaid, an industry-standard financial data service. Your credentials are entered directly on Plaid’s secure interface—Dongip never sees them.

Connect a bank account

1

Open Settings

Tap the profile icon in the bottom navigation, then select Settings.
2

Go to Banks

Tap Banks, then tap Connect a bank.
3

Search for your bank

Type your bank’s name in the search field and select it from the list.
4

Sign in on your bank's screen

A secure Plaid window opens. Enter your online banking credentials there. Dongip never sees this information.
5

Choose accounts to sync

Select which accounts (chequing, savings, credit card) you want to connect. You can connect multiple accounts from the same bank.
After you finish, Dongip imports recent transactions immediately. New transactions typically appear within a few minutes of posting to your bank.

Auto-categorization that learns

Every imported transaction is automatically assigned a category—Groceries, Transport, Dining, and so on. Dongip tracks which categories you confirm and which you correct, and uses that history to make sharper guesses over time.
When you correct a miscategorized transaction, Dongip remembers the merchant and applies the right category automatically going forward. The more you use it, the less you need to correct.

Automatic import

Transactions appear as soon as they post. No manual entry needed.

Smart categories

Categories learn from your corrections and improve every week.

Multiple accounts

Connect chequing, savings, and credit cards from one or more banks.

Read-only access

Dongip can never move money or change anything in your bank account.

Adding transactions manually

Bank sync handles most transactions automatically, but you can always add an expense by hand—cash purchases, reimbursements, or anything not tied to a connected account. Tap the + button on the Expenses screen to log a transaction manually.
Manual transactions and bank-synced transactions live side by side in the same expense list. You can filter by source at any time.

Disconnect a bank

1

Open Settings → Banks

Tap Settings, then Banks to see all connected accounts.
2

Select the account

Tap the bank you want to remove.
3

Tap Disconnect

Confirm the disconnection. Existing imported transactions remain in Dongip; no new transactions will sync from that account.

Frequently asked questions

Dongip uses Plaid, which supports thousands of banks and credit unions. Search for your bank during setup—if it appears in the list, it’s supported.
The initial sync typically covers the last 90 days of transactions, depending on your bank.
Tap the transaction, select the correct category, and save. Dongip learns from the correction and applies it to future charges from the same merchant.
Yes. Repeat the connection steps for each bank. All connected accounts sync into the same expense list.
